Lizard Music by Daniel Pinkwater

Have you ever wished to be home alone? Leonard is an independent kid and a bit of a loner, too, so when his parents go on vacation without him he enjoys some quiet days eating frozen dinners and watching late-night movies. Until he sees a group of lizards playing music on television.

In his attempt to find out where that music came from, Leonard sets off on an unexpected journey that involves the Chicken Man, Claudia (his chicken), Pod People, and an entire city of lizards.

All the goings-on sometimes leaves Leonard wondering if he's crazy. The story leaves you wondering maybe the Chicken Man and talking Lizards are the sanest things. It's the the rest of the world that is crazy.

Favorite parts of the story:

The House of Plants, the House of Memory, the House of Ideas, and the House of the Egg (you'll have to read it!).

How the story makes you wonder if talk show hosts really are pod people.
